每年, 多于1,000 people volunteer either as individuals or as part of group volunteer projects. Individuals volunteer in various parts of the organization, from helping to care for our animals on the farm 和 tending to our gardens to spending time with our students in the school 和 dorms as tutors or mentors. More than 40 volunteer groups are welcomed annually to assist with special projects 和 maintenance work. In addition, the 绿色的烟囱 Board of Directors is comprised of dedicated professionals 和 community leaders who share their time, 专业知识, 和 support for the betterment of services for children with special needs 和 animals.

“As a nonprofit organization, 绿色的烟囱 relies on the generosity of individuals to share time, 人才, 和利益,” explains Kristin Dionne, 绿色的烟囱 Director of Fund Development. “志愿者s offer fresh perspectives 和 much needed helping h和s from which our students, 工作人员, 和 animals benefit. We are forever grateful to all of our volunteers.”
不幸的是, our annual 志愿者 Recognition Brunch, which had been scheduled for early May had to be postponed due to the current health crisis. Expressing our gratitude for these vital contributions, however, will not be delayed!
While not every volunteer is documented in the photo album above, our heartfelt appreciation extends to each 和 every person who generously shares their time 和 hearts with 绿色的烟囱 as a volunteer. Their contributions are more than stalls mucked 和 school assignments assisted: volunteers are friends, 榜样, 和他的同事们. 志愿者s are connected to our animals, students, 和 工作人员 … 和 vice versa.
虽然我们的 志愿者 Program is currently paused because of COVID-19 precautions, the volunteers continue to contribute through staying connected, sharing messages of encouragement with 工作人员, 和 supporting our community. We look forward to the day we resume our full volunteer activities, 但在那之前, join us in celebrating these hardworking 和 kind people!
With the completion of an elaborate new habitat built by 绿色的烟囱’ woodshop students, the 农场 Science classroom was able to welcome 巧克力蛋糕 into her new home. 巧克力蛋糕 previously lived alone in her cage in the farm 和 wildlife office, but guinea pigs do best in larger environments. The new habitat allows her to live in a herd as she would in the wild, with many places to hide 和 ways to practice her skills. 巧克力蛋糕 has always been a social creature, 和 she has taken over the guinea pig herd but is a very peaceful leader.
